Convey: The Clock That Turns Back Time

A Unique Anti-Clockwise Movement

Have you ever wondered why clock hands always turn clockwise? Pouya Mirhosseini did, and that curiosity led him to create Convey. The inspiration for this design struck Mirhosseini while lying in bed, imagining the possibility of going back in time. As he pictured the hands of clocks turning backward and anti-clockwise, he questioned the conventional notion of clockwise movement.

Convey breaks the rules with its anti-clockwise movement, replacing traditional hour and minute hands with a single fixed needle. The clock face, instead of a complete shape, features a circular quarter that rotates. This minimalistic design is achieved by using sleek lines and avoiding heavy and thick forms.

Not only is Convey visually striking, but it also offers practical features. It can be connected to smartphones for time adjustment and battery level monitoring. The clock is made using iron rod, plexiglass, and ABS materials, ensuring durability and a sleek aesthetic.

Operating Convey is simple yet captivating. The pendulum moves anti-clockwise, with numbers on it, while the needle attached to the body indicates the time. The clock is rechargeable via a USB port and can be personalized through the Convey application, allowing users to choose the color of the pendulum plexiglass in some models.

From a technical standpoint, Convey measures 121mm in width, 63mm in depth, and 250mm in height, making it a compact and versatile addition to any space.

The journey of creating Convey began in March 2019 at Tabriz Islamic Art University, with the project reaching completion in June 2020. Throughout the design process, Mirhosseini conducted extensive research on different types of clocks, their functions, materials, and designs. Overcoming the challenge of finding a form and function that supported the anti-clockwise movement was a significant milestone.

The unique design of Convey has garnered recognition and acclaim. It was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2021. This award recognizes Convey as a well-designed, practical, and innovative creation that meets professional and industrial requirements.
